Dr. Nielsen’s CV

Michael Nielsen began a one-year teaching position at Georgia Southern University in 1993. One year became two, and now he calls Statesboro home. He received a B.A. in music and psychology from Southern Utah University in 1986 and a Ph.D. in social-organizational psychology from Northern Illinois University in 1992. Most of Dr. Nielsen’s research concerns psychological aspects of religious belief & behavior. He regularly teaches courses in Psychology of Religion, Social Psychology, and History of Psychology; he also teaches Research & Analysis courses. Dr. Nielsen has been President of The Society for the Psychology of Religion and Spirituality, Division 36 of the American Psychological Association. Dr. Nielsen serves on the editorial boards of Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion, Journal of Social Psychology, and several others in the area of psychology and religion. He has delivered invited lectures at National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and at Istanbul University, and a virtual workshop at the University of Karachi. Dr. Nielsen been department chair, and has received awards for service from the American Psychological Association and Georgia Southern University. When not at his desk, he enjoys time with his family, volleyball, kite flying, volleyball, music, and volleyball.
