Dr. Chad Posick Receives Bureau of Justice Assistance Grant Award

Criminal Justice and Criminology faculty member Dr. Chad Posick, with the Savannah-Chatham District Attorney’s office, was awarded a $150,000 grant through the Bureau of Justice Assistance Smart Prosecution initiative. The Smart Prosecution grant will fund a full-time prosecutor who will focus on gun crimes though the Violence Intervention Program (VIP).

Dr. Posick will lead the research and evaluation efforts of the VIP, which seeks to coordinate identification of local violence hot spots in Chatham County and the most violent offenders, track and prioritize prosecution in hotspots and individuals within those areas, divert non-violent cases to alternative programs, engage community groups within active hotspots. He will evaluate the program using multi-method research techniques.
