Dr. Brenda Sims Blackwell Hired as Chair
The Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology is excited to announce that Dr. Brenda Sims Blackwell has been hired as Chair, starting on July 1, 2014. Dr. Blackwell holds a Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma, and researches female criminality and the treatment of and criminal justice responses to female offenders. To that end, she has published numerous articles examining power-control theory in an effort to understand sex differences in criminality. In addition, Dr. Blackwell has recently worked on a collaborative NIJ funded research project examining the commercial sex exploitation of children in Atlanta, Georgia. Her research has been published in top-tier journals such as Criminology, Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency, Crime and Delinquency, and the Journal of Criminal Justice. In addition, Dr. Blackwell has experience as the Chair of the Division of Women and Crime in the American Society of Criminology, serves on editorial boards for several journals, and has served as Undergraduate Coordinator for the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at Georgia State University.
