Internships
Human Development & Family Science majors are encouraged to complete a capstone professional development opportunity in the form of a full-time professional internship. The internship typically occurs during the semester following completion of all coursework. Students are jointly supervised by a faculty internship supervisor and an experienced on-site supervisor at the internship location. HDFS students and sites who want to learn more about the HDFS Internship Process can visit: https://sites.google.com/georgiasouthern.edu/hdfsinternships/home

Children’s Camp in Georgia
We run nine overnight summer camps for children and teens with chronic illnesses and disabilities. Volunteering at a Children’s Camp is great for a resume, community service hours, fieldwork experience, and to network with Children’s employees. Below you will find more information regarding our camp programs.
We also offer a Camp Program Internship during which participants help with the behind-the-scenes planning and implementation of camp. Students attend two full weeks of camp and spend 2-3 days a week in the office throughout the summer preparing for camp. We offer child life practicum hours for the internship. Applications can be found at this link: Camp Program Internship. We do have an especially high need for male volunteers to work with our male campers.
The camps are hosted at Camp Twin Lakes in Winder, GA and Rutledge, GA, which are both 45 min–1 hour outside of Atlanta. Room and board is provided for each week of camp. All volunteers are required to complete a mandatory virtual training prior to camp.

Valdosta Marriage and Family Therapy
The Marriage and Family Therapy program at VSU offers junior and senior undergraduate students the opportunity to participate in a Clinical Undergraduate Internship in the Summer semesters. During the summer semester, we offer a flexible schedule as the internship can be taken for one month, or the entire semester (June-July). The internship provides a hands-on experience where students can fully participate in learning about what it means to be a Marriage and Family Therapist by working at FamilyWorks Clinic- Valdosta State University
Here is a link to a short video about the internship: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ll19KljDaWk
The internship is housed in the Marriage and Family Therapy Program at VSU. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Training and Education (COAMFTE). The 60 credit Master of Science Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy prepares students for licensure as Marriage and Family Therapists in Georgia and other states and for clinical membership in the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). The Program provides the unique opportunity for students to work face-to-face with clients at FamilyWorks, our student-run, university-based Family Therapy clinic.
