Call2Care

The Call2Care Program is an intergenerational telephone reassurance program that allows older adults to interact with trained college student volunteers to socialize, share knowledge, and provide friendship and mentorship to one another.
Such benefits are essential to well-being in general and are ever more important during recent events that limit safe in-person social connections.
Call2Care was launched in the summer of 2020 and has since matched approximately 100 adult-student pairs. All Call2Care Student Volunteers undergo training, a background check, and an application while the Call2Care Adults agree to an ethical behavior statement and short intake process conducted over the phone. These steps help ensure a safe and quality experience for our Call2Care Community. Students are asked to call adults twice weekly for at least seven consecutive weeks, with each call lasting 20 minutes in length.
We have learned that some college student-adult pairs keep in touch for much longer, whereas others prefer a shorter experience. We are designed to be flexible to meet the needs of our Call2Care Community. This is a safe, remote opportunity to meaningfully connect with others and can decrease the feeling of isolation in older adults.

The Call2Care is led by a team of Georgia Southern University Faculty and Staff. Students are trained and complete a criminal background check.
