Dr. Adrienne L Cohen

Adrienne L. Cohen, Ph.D., MPA, LSW, is an assistant professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. She is a social gerontologist who worked in the field for more than 20 years, including 10 years at the Vermont Department of Health. Cohen primarily teaches courses related to aging, and her research interests include rural aging, home- and community-based service structures in rural areas, program evaluation, support networks, and qualitative research.

Both her master’s thesis and her doctoral dissertation involved formal and informal support systems for rural elders. She is currently working several research studies exploring the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in Gerontology and an Autoethnography exploring how much personal experience professors should bring into the classroom.

The Center for Social Gerontology (CSG) is a cross-disciplinary collaborative center whose mission is to seek to make a positive difference in the lives of aging persons and their families and communities through increasing awareness of as well as fostering and supporting the needs and activities of a diverse older adult population at multiple levels.
