The School of Human Ecology in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences invites
applications and nominations for the position of Visiting Instructor for the Fashion Merchandising
and Apparel Design Program. This position is located on the Statesboro campus.

Within this setting, the mission of the Fashion Merchandising and Apparel Design (FMAD)
Program at Georgia Southern University is to prepare undergraduate students to succeed in
their future careers in the global apparel industry. The fashion merchandising and design
program provides a structured and experiential learning process to help students understand
the concepts and methods of today’s fashion industry while focusing on leadership
development, teamwork, and specialized skills to succeed. This mission aligns with Georgia
Southern University and the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences missions by educating
students through a student-centered learning process that prepares our students to be
influential leaders ready to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow.
Position Description. Reporting to the School of Human Ecology Chair, the Visiting Instructor
requires teaching the equivalent of 15 semester hours each semester in Fashion Merchandising
and Apparel Design lecture and/or lab classes, holding regular in person office hours, and
participating in departmental meetings and activities. The position is a one-year (10-month),
non-tenure track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with
qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications:

  • Earned MFA, master’s or doctoral degree in Fashion Merchandising and/or Apparel
    Design (or a closely related field) by August 1, 2023, with at least 18 graduate semester
    hours in Fashion Merchandising and/or Apparel Design
    Preferred Qualifications:
  • A minimum of one year of college/university teaching experience
  • Full- or part-time experience in apparel industry practice

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without
    assistance from the institution.
  • All work (with limited exceptions such as research and study abroad and outside
    activities such as grading and email correspondence) for Georgia Southern University
    must be completed while the employee is physically present in the state of Georgia,
    unless specifically authorized by the university for a specific purpose and limited period
    of time within current policy.
  • Faculty are expected to contribute to the vibrant university community by engaging
    students, participating in events, and performing other responsibilities on-campus
  • Faculty may be required to teach, conduct research, or perform service duties on any of
    the three campuses. Georgia Southern provides accessible transportation options
    between campuses.
