After considering the feedback from the listening sessions and the comments from the Department and School Chairs, the Dean returned the draft to the workgroup on April 20, 2018 with comments about separating policies from bylaws, addressing issues of authority over policies, and clarifying the roles of shared governance.

On April 23, 2018, the workgroup produced drafts of two documents – the CBSS Bylaws and CBSS Policies that attempted to address the structural and content issues of the first document.

With the end of the semester looming, the dean decided to regroup in the fall 2018 semester to continue to refine the bylaws and policies.

January 2019 and Bylaws Approval

The work of the Fall 2018 Governance Workgroup produced a new draft of the CBSS Bylaws. This draft was vetted by college and senior administration during the end of the Fall semester and approved to be presented to the CBSS faculty for a vote.

The draft Bylaws were distributed to faculty on January 14, 2019 via email. A discussion of the draft Bylaws was held at a college wide faculty and staff meeting on January 25 (IAB 1020, 2:30 pm).  After discussion a motion was made and seconded for the faculty to vote on the Bylaws.

The ballots were emailed to the faculty with instructions to vote either approve or to not approve the draft Bylaws.  At the end of one week, 82 faculty voted to approve, 2 voted to not approve, and 22 did not respond. The numbers of votes to exceeded the 2/3 out of 106 eligible faculty criterion.

The Bylaws went into effect immediately on February 1, 2019.
