The Cultural Heritage Graduate Scholarship
The Cultural Heritage Scholarship supports a clearly defined program of graduate study and research on a significant dimension of the cultural heritage of the South, preferably Georgia. The scholarship is for one year; renewable for one additional year, if the recipient is making appropriate progress toward completion of his or her graduate degree in the judgment of the selection committee.
To be considered for the Cultural Heritage Scholarship you must:
- Be accepted into a graduate degree program in anthropology, history, or sociology.
- Demonstrate commitment to a clearly defined program of academic study and research which focuses on a significant dimension of the cultural heritage of the South, preferably Georgia.
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (please submit unofficial copies of your undergraduate transcript if you are an entering graduate student).
- Be enrolled as a full-time student in the Jack N. Averitt College of Graduate Studies for the period covered by the scholarship.
- Describe in 100 words your research interests, demonstrating how it focuses or will focus on a significant dimension of the cultural heritage of the South.

Victor, Rebecca and Richard Persico Scholarship in Anthropology
The scholarship was originally established in 1993 as a memorial gift to the Georgia Southern University Foundation in memory of Martha Rebecca Persico, late wife of Victor Richard Persico Sr., and mother of Dr. Victor Richard Persico Jr., a professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Georgia Southern University. The scholarship has been renamed to memorialize all three individuals who have all since passed away.
Students eligible for the Victor, Rebecca and Richard Persico Scholarship in Anthropology may be at any undergraduate level and must carry a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 at the time of the award and maintain the GPA throughout the award period. Students must maintain full-time status throughout the award period.
This is an endowed scholarship, so scholarship amounts are determined by the funds available in any one year. Scholarships are for one year; students can reapply for subsequent years.
Dr. Lee Rogers Berger Scholarship in Anthropology
The Dr. Lee Rogers Berger Scholarship in Anthropology was established in 2012 by Dr. Lee Rogers Berger and his mother, Rose Mae Millikan. Dr. Berger graduated from Georgia Southern University in 1989 with a degree in Anthropology/Archaeology and a minor in Geology. Dr. Berger is a paleoanthropologist, physical anthropologist and archaeologist and is best known for his discovery of Australopithecus sediba, the excavation the Rising Star Cave, his work on Australopithecus africanus body proportions and the Taung Bird of Prey Hypothesis.
The scholarship is available to junior and senior anthropology majors who have maintained a 3.0 average. Eligible applicants must have declared their intent of graduate study or have begun the application process to seek a graduate degree in one of the following areas:
Paleoanthropology, Biological anthropology, Physical anthropology, Hominin evolution, Evolutionary studies, Primate behavior, Primate studies, Faunal analysis, African zooarchaeology.

Cultural Heritage Center Scholarship
The Cultural Heritage Center Endowment award is available to graduate students with a 3.0 or higher undergraduate GPA who are pursuing master degrees in one of the following areas: Anthropology, History or Sociology. Student must be committed to research and study that focused on a significant dimension of the cultural heritage of the South.
This is an endowed scholarship, so scholarship amounts are determined by the funds available in any one year. Scholarships are for one year; students can reapply for subsequent years.
Becky Newberry Tiller Sociology Scholarship
The Becky Newberry Tiller Sociology Scholarship was established to benefit students majoring in Sociology. The scholarship shall be awarded to a full time sociology major who maintains an overall grade point average of 3.0 or better. Preference is given to students that have completed at least 12 course hours in Sociology classes. Consideration will be given to students who are involved in community service activities, involved in research with faculty, and other extracurricular activities across campus. With all things being equal, at least one scholarship should be given to a student whose emphasis is Social Services.
$6000 scholarship amount, typically split between 3 students. Scholarships are for one year; students can reapply for subsequent years.
